What it is used for

The ACT-2003 is designed for the two most common scenarios when a POF network grows beyond a basic kit:

Main use

As an intermediate point

It receives the fiber from one segment and forwards it to another, extending the POF network beyond the first cable's 50-meter limit. At the same location, you can connect up to 3 devices via Ethernet.

Alternative use

As a starting point

It can also be connected directly to the router instead of an ACT1001, leaving a second POF port available for a second fiber output at the source.

Important: remove the dust caps from all optical connectors when plugging the equipment into the power supply, even if you are not going to use all the POF ports.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the ACT-2003 and the ACT1003?
Both have 3 Ethernet outputs. The difference is in the POF ports: the ACT1003 has only one, making it an "end of line." The ACT-2003 has two, so it can act as an intermediate point and continue carrying the fiber to another location. If your network ends there, the ACT1003 is sufficient. If you are going to chain another segment, you need the ACT-2003.
Can I connect it directly to the router?
Yes. Although it is most commonly used as an intermediate point, it also works perfectly when connected to the router as the starting point of the POF network. This leaves you with a second fiber port available in case you want a second output in the future.
Can it be used to expand a Snap Data kit I already have?
Yes. It is compatible with all Snap Data converters (ACT1001, ACT1002, ACT1003, ACT4001). It is the typical component added when a home or office network needs to expand beyond the initial kit.
Does it include the plastic optical fiber cable?
No. The ACT-2003 is sold as a standalone component and includes only the converter and its power supply. The POF cable is purchased separately, cut to the length you need. If you are looking for a complete pack with everything you need, see the kits section.
Do I lose speed when passing through an intermediate point?
No. The converter delivers 100% of the bandwidth from the source point. Each fiber segment maintains the guaranteed 50-meter range without loss at 1 Gbps.
Do all 3 connected devices run at full speed simultaneously?
The gigabit is distributed among the ports according to what each device is using at any given moment, just like any home switch. Under normal use (streaming, gaming, browsing), none of them falls short because the fiber provides much more bandwidth than they consume simultaneously.
