Movistar's FTTR Fiber vs Plastic Optical Fiber

Movistar has launched its FTTR (Fiber to the Room) service, a significant advancement in connectivity designed to expand high-speed coverage at home. This launch validates a truth that we've extensively explained on this blog and our YouTube channel: whole-house Wi-Fi is inefficient. Movistar acknowledges the limitations of conventional Wi-Fi systems and extenders or mesh networks, aligning with Actelser's vision of the superiority of point-to-point wired connections with local Wi-Fi transmitters.

Movistar's FTTR fiber, while promising similar benefits to Plastic Optical Fiber (POF), comes with an initial cost of 120 euros and a monthly fee of 9.90 euros, totaling 357.6 euros over two years, with a mandatory 24-month commitment and penalties for early termination. In contrast, Actelser's affordable basic POF kit, priced at 216 euros, including a Vonets mini-router, offers a one-time solution with no monthly fees. Even when adding an average installation cost of 50 euros, the total of 266 euros is much more economical than Movistar's proposal, providing the freedom to choose any provider and take advantage of market offers.

Actelser not only matches the performance at a more accessible cost but also offers more freedom of choice while maintaining service quality. We applaud Movistar for finally recognizing the challenge of limited Wi-Fi connectivity. Is it truly a leap into the future of connectivity? We will closely monitor the deployment of this new technology.
